A friend of mine, Ian, just blogged about his experience traveling to Mt. Bromo – the well known volcano in East Java. He took some gorgeous pics (the photo above is his, not mine!) and, as always, descriptively conveys what it’s like to be there through well-written posts. I was hoping to go with them on this trip, but failed miserably at planning ahead of time. The third sign of Java’s vigorous population appeared at the popular scenic overlook whereRead more

Asia Blog Awards
The Asia Blog Awards 2006-2007 are now happening. This blog has been nominated for “Best Asian Photoblog”. If you’d like to know more about these awards, there’s more information available here. If you’re interested in voting, I’ve created a garish button on the right column that will remain up until either A) I win. B) I lose. C) I get off my arse and make a conscious effort to take it down. I appreciate the nomination.Read more
My Space on Myspace
So I’ve been playing around with myspace.com. I know, I’m only two years late. In some ways it seems ridiculously cheesy and so… I don’t know, 1997 Geocities or something. I can’t believe the absurd backgrounds, clutter, and other junk that people put on their profiles BUT who am I to talk? It’s one of the most popular sites on the ‘net. To be honest, even after browsing for people from my high school, university, etc, I still can’t seeRead more
Sam Javanrouh: Damn I Wish I Was This Good
* NOTE: THIS IS NOT MY PHOTO. ** but I wish is was. This was taken by the amazing Toronto photograher, Sam Javanrouh. I’ve been following his work for a couple of years now. It’s both inspiring and frustrating to know that he uses virtually the same equipment as I do, yet he produces images worlds away from mine. I’m posting his photo as a reminder to myself: this is the kind of creativity I need to develop. Click onRead more
Getting Published: Digital Portrait Photography and Lighting
Some of my photographs have been published in “Digital Portrait Photography and Lighting” – a book written by the lovely, talented, and award-winning photographer, Catherine Jamieson. She was kind enough to include some photos of Novita, Nana, and some other portraits of Indonesians in her book. I haven’t had the chance to see it yet, but it’s available on Amazon.com and most likely in many bookstores across the world. Here is some additional acclaim for the book.Read more
New Photoblog or Just Playin?
I’ve been messing around with the idea of creating a straight-up photoblog with minimal writing for those visitors who seek only the imagery. I also would rather be able to display the photos in a larger size than the blog allows for. If you’ve been following me for a while you know that I have a gallery that hasn’t been updated in forever, a flickr account that is consistently updated but lacks my own personalization, a smugmug account from whichRead more
