I have good news and bad.

Good:
I just received word that two of my friends were on the island of Koh Phi Phi – the island the movie, “The Beach” was filmed on. This island was hit very hard by the tsunami (near Phuket). My friends were on a boat crossing to mainland ONE HOUR before the tsunami hit! They are extraordinarily lucky to be alive.

Two other friends left Phuket for Chaing Mai before the tsunami hit – they emailed last night to say they’re fine.

Bad:
Two friends that I had believed to be in Malaysia, supposedly were on Koh Phi Phi – we haven’t heard anything yet from them. They’re a married couple, and the woman is 8 months pregnant.

My friends who were on Phuket have been thinking of all those ‘strangers’ who became friends along their way – now they have to wonder whether they’re alive or not.

They may never know.

On another note – I cannot believe the words in the comment (after the article) from this article. What a lack of humanity.
