The Aliwan Festival (or fiesta) was held this weekend in Manila. The festival is a massive event that brings together cultures from all across the Philippines in the form of a street parade, beauty pageant, and float competition. Braving the heat wasn’t easy, but I felt a strong urge to use this as a launching point from which to begin focusing more effort on photographing the Philippines (since it is my home now) – I wasn’t disappointed. Jakarta 2010 recap
After only a week in Jakarta, we’ll head back to Manila tonight at 1AM. It’s been a very different kind of holiday (well, compared to Boracay), but good nonetheless. There’s definitely a different feeling to Jakarta when returning as a tourist. Most of my friends have moved on to other countries, and Novita’s family was quite busy to hang out much. I ended up spending a lot of time in Kelapa Gading simply because it’s the area I know best.Read more
Earthquake in Manila
At about 1:30pm as I was sitting at my desk, the chair and table started swaying. Even after 8 months of living in Manila, I’m still not used to these earthquakes (I didn’t grow up with earthquakes). We’re quite literally in the midst of a concrete jungle. Towering skyscrapers, bustling sidewalks, concerete everywhere – which is great ifRead more

Twenty-ten thus far
2010 has shaped up to be quite the rollercoaster ride thus far. Five weeks in and yet so many dramatic, euphoric highs and nausea-inducing lows. I dig a life of change and spontaneity, but it’s sure not easy on the soul. Fortunately, I’ll now have more time to blog and get back into photography once again. I’m only now starting to settle after nearly 7 months in Manila. The pace of these past few months has been exhausting, but thingsRead more
